Auburn’s J.M. Butler, a former star at Trinity, led the No. 6 Tigers to a 3-2 match-play finals win over No. 5 Florida State at the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships in Carlsbad, California. Butler clinched the title after sinking a par putt.
Butler won the Tiger Invitational individual championship in 2024, the Maui Jim Intercollegiate individual championship in 2021, the 107th Kentucky Amateur championship in 2021, the fourth Sizzler Amateur championship in 2020 and the inaugural Dye Junior Invitational championship in 2020.
Around the city: KFC Yum! Center hosting UFC Fight Night
UFC is sanctioning a fight card in Louisville for the first time in 13 years on Saturday at the KFC Yum! Center. The main event is a middleweight bout featuring Jared Cannonier and Nassourdine Imavov. The co-main event features No. 14 light heavyweight Dominick Reyes moving down to the bantamweight division to face Dustin Jacoby. Raul Rosas Jr. will take on Ricky Turcios.
Fans can watch the prelims of UFC Fight Night on ESPN+ at 5 p.m. The main card starts at 8 p.m. on ESPN/ESPN+.
Around the state: Jasper Johnson makes Team USA’s U18 squad
Link Academy junior Jasper Johnson, who also played for Woodford County, became the third Kentuckian this year to play for Team USA. Sacred Heart’s ZaKiyah Johnson and Bethlehem’s Leah Macy were selected for the women’s U18 team.
Jasper Johnson, a five-star prospect, earned a spot on the U18 National Team for the AmeriCup tournament, which is scheduled to begin Monday in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Great Crossing junior Malachi Moreno also competed in the team trials.

High school recruiting: Manual star Nicholas Ballard commits to Louisville baseball
Crimsons junior Nicholas Ballard has committed to play baseball for Louisville. Ballard batted .391, had 39 hits and led the team in RBIs (27), home runs (five) and walks (22). Manual finished 23-12, losing in a Seventh Region semifinal against top-ranked Trinity.

- The Louisville Bats will visit the Nashville Sounds for games beginning at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The series is scheduled to conclude with a 3:05 p.m. game June 9.
