The honour recognises the contributions these three legendary players have made on the DP World Tour and in the Ryder Cup during their respective careers.
Next to them was DPWT Executive Director Guy Kinnings, who highlighted the personalities of these golfers. The executive also said that this “award” is only given to “those who have contributed to the Tour both on and off the course.” Including them, there are now 62 Life Members.
The 60-year-old Jimenez has accumulated 21 DPWT victories and has played in 722 tour events, the second-most players behind David Howell, who recently took the record from him.
In 2014, he also became the oldest player to win the title at the age of 50 years and 133 days. He has not been a Ryder Cup captain, but he was vice-captain in 1997, 2012 and 2014. The “Pisha” participated in four Ryder Cups as a player. “Golf has given me everything in life and I am proud to be a part of this world.
“For me, this is not a job, it's a way of life,” the Malaga native said in a statement recorded on the DPWT website. Miguel Ángel Jiménez (born 5 January 1964 in Malaga) is a Spanish golfer. He made his debut on the PGA European Tour in 1988 and won the Belgian Open in 1992, his first title.
In 1999, he was selected for the European Ryder Cup team for the first time, and he also played for the team in 2004, 2008 and 2010, and served as vice-captain in 2012. His best result in the four majors was second place in the US Open
Open. In 2000 he won the Open and in 2001 he finished third at the British Open. In his career he won a total of 22 professional tournaments, 19 of which were on the European Tour. On May 18, 2014, with his victory at the Spanish Open, Jimenez became the oldest winner on the European Tour at the age of 50 years and 135 days.
