Ian Poulter is facing a race against time to retrieve his golf clubs after they were left behind at Heathrow Airport, just days before the LIV Golf event at the Golf Club of Houston in Texas.
Poulter, 48, was en route to Houston for the upcoming LIV Golf tournament, set to tee off on Thursday. He, along with his Majesticks GC teammate Henrik Stenson, discovered mid-flight that their golf bags were not on the plane with them. Poulter believes his clubs are still at Heathrow Airport, near the British Airways lounge in Terminal 5.
While in the air, Poulter received a text message from British Airways informing him that his bag had not traveled with him. Sharing the news on social media, Poulter expressed his frustration: “FFS @british_airways so disappointing,” he wrote on Instagram. “I checked in 2 hours 20 minutes before the flight. What could possibly be the excuse?”
In a follow-up post featuring a selfie, Poulter added, “Just received the email 3 hours into the flight. I wouldn’t have bothered flying if you’re not sending my golf clubs. Can’t swing fresh air.” He also shared a photo indicating the location of his bag and noted, “The golf bag wasn’t overweight. I took it to oversize and scanned it and watched it go down the belt. #Pathetic.”
Poulter also pointed out that Henrik Stenson’s clubs were missing as well, commenting, “@british_airways just for the record there are @henrickstenson golf clubs as well. You might as well find those as well whilst you’re looking for mine. The one thing you guys do very well is charge for flying.”
Before discovering the mishap, Poulter had been in a good mood, sharing a selfie on the plane with the caption: “Heading to Houston.”
This incident adds to the challenges Poulter has faced this season, as he has been struggling for form. The potential lack of practice time in Houston could further impact his performance in the tournament.
The LIV Golf event in Houston marks the league’s return after a month-long break for the PGA Championship. Poulter and his fellow competitors will be eager to get back into action, assuming his clubs arrive in time for the tournament.
