HELSINGBORG, SWEDEN (June 5, 2024) – After a stellar career at East Tennessee State University, Mats Egger He will compete on the DP World Tour in the Volvo Cars Scandinavian Mixed Championship, which starts Thursday at Vasatorps Golfklubb in Helsingborg, Sweden.
In 2020, the European Tour and Ladies European Tour added the Scandinavian Mixed Tournament, hosted by Henrik Stenson and Annika Sorenstam, bringing together 78 men and 78 women for the first time in the same tournament, competing for the same prize money but starting from different tees.
The inaugural event was originally scheduled for June 2020; however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event, like many others at the time, was cancelled.
The event resumed in June 2021, with Jonathan Caldwell winning the inaugural mixed event, shooting a final-round 64 to beat Adrián Otaegui by one stroke. Alice Hewson was the highest-ranked female player, finishing third.
The 2022 tournament made history when Lynn Grant became the first woman to win a European Tour title. She finished nine shots ahead of Henrik Stenson and Mark Warren. The second-placed woman was Gabriella Cowley, 14 shots behind Grant. Englishman Dale Whitnell returns to defend her title after winning in 2023.
AJ will begin the first round at 3:10 a.m. ET Thursday and will begin the second round at 8:10 a.m. ET Friday.
Edge had a stellar 2023-24 season, becoming the sixth Pirate player in school history to earn PING First Team All-America honors. Edge also earned SoCon Player of the Year honors for a second straight season, was a Haskins Award finalist, and was named to the Ben Hogan Watch List. Edge had three wins total this season, earning medals at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate Tournament, Wake Forest Invitational, and SoCon Championship. The Pirate leader played in all 13 of the Blue and Gold’s tournaments and set a school record scoring average of 69.25. In a total of 40 rounds played, Edge shot 33 under-par rounds and finished at 86 under. Edge had nine top-10 finishes, while he tied for 18th at the NCAA Championship.
