On Sunday, Scottie Scheffler aims to make history at the 2024 Memorial Tournament. Leading by four strokes after 54 holes, the world’s top-ranked golfer is seeking his fifth win of the season. Achieving this milestone would place him alongside Justin Thomas (2017) and both Jason Day and Jordan Spieth (2015) as the only golfers in the past decade to accomplish this feat. Additionally, it would be the fastest a player has secured five victories in a PGA Tour season since Tom Watson in 1980.
While Scheffler leads, his closest competitors, Sepp Straka, Collin Morikawa, and Adam Hadwin, are likely too far behind to pose a serious threat over the final 18 holes. Thus, Scheffler is poised to either claim his fifth PGA Tour win in eight starts, heading into next week’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst, or potentially miss out on one of his best chances to win this year.
