Guido Migliozzi birdied three of his final four holes for a bogey-free 67 to move into the top of the European Open final-round leaderboard with Laurie Canter.
The Italian started the day six shots behind overnight leader Canter but then reeled off six straight birdies to move him to 12 under at Green Eagle Golf Links as he looks to claim a fourth DP World Tour title.
Kanter held a four-shot lead early in the tournament but lost three shots in as many holes after the turn before showing all his fighting qualities to shoot an even-par 73 to get back on top.
Denmark's Niklas Nørgaard shot 71 to finish one shot behind the leader, ahead of local favorite Jannik De Bruyn and France's Tom Vaillant.
Migliozzi had a slow start to the season but finished second at the recent Volvo China Open and finished in the top 10 at the 2019 Porsche North Course.
He has been under par in nine of his past ten rounds and is happy to be able to enjoy playing golf again as his form returns.
“I played great, solid, and I was really focused on every shot,” he said. “It was hard to keep it going, but I played really well today.”
“I feel more comfortable on the golf course, I’m having fun. I feel better with my shots, so there’s power, more consistency in my shots, which gives me more confidence.
“It feels good to be out there tomorrow. I'm just going to try to do the same thing: focus shot by shot and be patient.”
Britain's Kant, a four-time runner-up who is seeking his first DP World Tour title, was pleased with his ability to maintain his lead despite being out of form.
“I really want to win,” he said. “I have nothing to lose and nothing to worry about in this regard. I’m just going to try to win the race.
“I feel like I tried to do that today. I had moments today where I felt like I might have lost the round and it turned into two, three over. Hopefully I've gotten over that.
“I didn't play great today. I hung in there pretty well and had some ups and downs on the back nine that kept me in the lead, so overall I'm pretty happy with it.”
Kanter two-putted for birdie on the par-5 fourth hole to extend his lead to four shots, but he missed a short putt on the eighth and took bogey, and when he dropped a tee shot on the 10th and then made double bogey, he was no longer in the lead.
De Bruyne got stuck in the water and lost a stroke on the 3rd hole, but he fought back with a nice chip shot to win the next hole and holed a bunker shot on the 5th hole.
He got close to 10 feet on the seventh hole to get to 11 under, and with Canter's miss, he had three pars to take the lead alone.
Vayant played well with his iron game on the front nine, hitting his approach to within 10 feet on holes 2, 5, 6 and 7 and scoring with a nice layup on the 11th.
An easy shot on the par-3 14th put him in a tie for first place with De Bruyne, but everything changed on the 11th when the home favourite fell into the water and Kante hit a brilliant chip shot on the green for birdie and back in the lead.
Vaillant made bogey for a 68 after missing the green at the 17th, while De Bruyn made birdie on the par-5 15th after a second shot, but both were surpassed by Migliozzi.
The 27-year-old put himself 10 feet away on the 3rd hole, then birdied the par-5 9th and 11th holes to reach the top with his impressive play.
Beautiful shots on the 15th and 16th holes gave him further wins on the two par-5s, while a 19-foot putt on the next hole gave him an emotional celebration of victory at 12 under.
Canter hit a nice chip from behind the 18th green to stay close to him, and Nørgaard also got up and made a birdie to finish alone in second place with a score of 71.
Earlier, he hit a long putt on the 5th hole, got off to a start on the 11th hole, and made a two-putt birdie on the 15th hole, while also losing some balls on the 9th and 12th holes.
De Bruyne bogeyed the 17th hole for a 72, one shot ahead of Austrian Bernd Weisberger, who shot a 67 to move to nine under.
Defending champion Tom McKibbin made four straight birdies on the back nine for a 71 that left him four shots behind the lead, along with Ivan Cantero of Spain and Jayden Schaper of South Africa.
Chapelle shot a 71 that included four birdies and two bogeys.
