There was a worrying moment at the Scandinavian Mixed Open in Sweden when a photographer fell to the ground after being hit on the head by a golf ball. Madeline Sagstrom reached the 18th hole for the third time in her second round on Friday but missed the green when she tried to reach it.
After the ball enters the rough area on the left side of the fairway, it flies to the hazards further to the right side of the course.
During the filming, the cameraman was helpless as the ball flew towards him, knocking him down.
The man initially collapsed with his hands over his face as concerned colleagues rushed to the photographer to check on him.
Sagstrom, who ended up with triple bogey and missed the cut at one over, initially seemed unaware of how it all played out. She and her caddie nonchalantly followed their ball before learning what had happened.
But despite the blow, it was later reported that he was fine. Golf Magic reporter Andy Roberts claimed on social media: “Just spoke to DP World Tour pro Jost Lutten and Tony Johnstone of Sky Sports Golf.
“They told me that the cameraman was unfortunately hit in the head by Madeline Sagstrom on the 18th and was taken straight to hospital, but luckily he's OK. It was a scary moment.”
Jamie Spence of Sky Sports Golf later said: “He's OK. Still in A&E with a headache.” Fans online expressed relief at the development.
The incident was Sagstrom's last move before he withdrew from the DP World Tour, which features both male and female professionals. After two rounds, home player Sebastian Soderberg led at 15 under.
Sagstrom, 31, competes primarily on the LPGA Tour in the U.S. She rose to prominence after finishing second at the 2021 Women's British Open at Carnoustie.
She also represented Sweden at the Olympics that same year. Her performance led to her being announced as one of the candidates to captain the 2021 European Solheim Cup team.
