Davis Bryant’s journey began and continues.
The Aurora resident, former Colorado State University golfer and winner of the Inspirato Colorado Open earlier this year, officially begins his DP World Tour career this week in Mauritius, an Indian Ocean island about 700 miles east of Madagascar.
Bryant got off to a very solid start Sunday by making the cut through 36 holes to finish 42nd at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, earning €7,228 ($7,539) in the process.
The 2019 CGA Player of the Year shot 69-73-74-71 for a total score of 1 under par, finishing 13 strokes behind champion John Parry.
Bryant will return home to Colorado for some time after just missing last weekend's Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa (where he was the first alternate when the tournament began) and then making his DP World Tour debut in Mauritius. According to Kobe's mother, Julie, if all goes according to plan, he will fly from Mauritius to Paris and then to Colorado, ideally arriving in the Centennial State on Christmas Eve.
For the record, that's a flight of over 10,000 miles – just to get home. Given that the DP World Tour will visit 26 countries during its 2024-25 schedule, Kobe will certainly travel even more miles in the coming year.
Bryant made the cut in his DP World Tour debut, adding to a stellar second half of 2024. That includes three wins — including the Colorado Open and Wyoming Open — and a third-place tour qualifier in the final stretch of the DP World Tour.
Bryant's performance in Mauritius was similar to that of his former Colorado State teammate, Westminster's Connor Jones. Jones made his PGA Tour debut at last month's Butterfield Bermuda Championship, where he qualified by winning the 2024 Elite Amateur Series, and finished tied for 65th.
Dan Erickson, whose family has lived at TPC Colorado in Berthoud in recent years but is about to move out of state, is also competing in the Mauritius Open after similarly successfully negotiating Q-school. , this is his DP World Tour debut. But he failed to advance after shooting 78-76.
The DP World Tour will resume the Heroes Dubai Desert Classic from January 16-19 as part of a two-month tour that will take it through the Middle East and then Africa.
