The English player is aiming for a fourth consecutive Ryder Cup appearance next year at Bethpage, New York, when Europe will defend the trophy they won in Rome nearly 12 months ago.
Under the new qualification system for the upcoming Ryder Cup, there will be only one standings table, with the top six players qualifying for the 12-man team, with captain Luke Donald once again having six captain’s picks.
“That’s certainly one of the reasons why I wanted to fight this week,” Hatton said.
“The Ryder Cup is really important to me and I’d love to be on that team next year and this week is a perfect start.”
Six-time DP World Tour champion Hatton is playing his first British Masters in five years, having finished in the top 10 twice in his previous four appearances at the historic tournament.
The English player is playing his first DP World Tour event since the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January and is looking forward to teeing off at The Belfry for the first time.
“I'm really excited about the week ahead; it's a historic venue for British golf and European golf and I'm really looking forward to it,” he said.
Earlier this week, Hatton's Ryder Cup teammates Francesco Molinari and Justin Rose were named captains for the second Team Cup, which will be held in Abu Dhabi from January 10-12, 2025.
Ryder Cup captain Donald will host the tournament in the United Arab Emirates as he did in 2023, and Hatton hopes he will be able to play the event in the new year.
“I played in (the Team Cup) two years ago, when it was the Hero Cup, and it was a really good week.
“I’d love to play next year if I could, so we’ll see how it goes, but like I said, I want to be a part of it.”
But for now, Hatton is aiming to play some great golf over the coming week.
“Any time you play in front of your home fans it’s always going to be a special week and for me personally I’d love to play well, make a lot of birdies and have the crowd cheering,” he said.
Hatton tees off at 13:10 local time on Thursday, along with 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett and Italian Guido Migliozzi, who won his fourth DP World Tour title at the KLM Open earlier this season.
