Tom King apologized on social media on Monday after damaging his dressing room door after losing in the DP World Tour Genesis Championship playoffs in South Korea on Sunday.
Ahn beat Kim in a playoff at the championship, after Kim just bowed out with a birdie putt on the final hole. That would have given King a win in the regular season, but instead sent the pair into the playoffs. Ahn then won the championship at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon, South Korea, by winning the first hole.
After congratulating Ann, Kim walked into the locker room and broke down the locker door in frustration. The door was completely off its hinges.
“After the loss I was devastated, yes absolutely,” King wrote on Instagram. “But I can assure you with absolute truth that I had no intention of damaging any part of the locker, not at all.
“Immediately after the incident occurred, I expressed the matter to the DP World Tour and the KPGA and said the door was opened.”
Kim said he was willing to pay damages and DP World Tour considered the matter closed.
“I'm grateful to everyone who sent messages of support, but to them and to anyone I may have let down, I sincerely apologize,” he wrote.
This is the latest incident that Kim Jong Un has been involved in this fall. At last month's Presidents Cup in Montreal, he accused American players of “cursing at us” during the game. He later apologized to U.S. captains Jim Furyk and Xander Schauffele for his comments.
King has won three times on the PGA Tour during his career, though he has not won since the 2023 Shriners Children's Open. He won his first two events in just three months in 2022, and he had two top-10s on tour last season, including a loss to Scotty Scheffler at the Travelers Championship in June ( Scottie Scheffler). Kim is currently ranked 25th in the world and has yet to win on the DP World Tour.
