Matt Wallace won the Omega European Masters in Switzerland with a mixed but fairly simple style of play to claim his first DP World Tour title in five years.
Wallace used a Ping G430 LST driver – 10.5˚ model, which helped him finish 12th in Strokes Gained and 8th in Driving Accuracy through four rounds in the Alps. He started the 2023 season with a Titleist TSR3 driver.
When it comes to fairway woods, he uses a 16.5˚ TaylorMade Qi10 Tour.
The 34-year-old uses the 18˚ lofted Titleist TSR2 as the only hybrid in his bag. Earlier this season, he swapped out his Titleist T200 utility irons(2) for the 18˚ lofted Titleist TSR2 hybrids.
Wallace also used a full set of 2021 Callaway X Forged CB irons, Nos. 4 through 9 — which have remained the same since he first used them at the 2022 KLM Open. He didn’t use a 3-iron at all.
Like many other players on the pro tour, including British Masters champion Niklas Nørgaard, he uses the Titleist Vokey SM10 as a wedge, with lofts of 46, 50 and 54 degrees, and the SM10-WW Proto at 60˚.
In his bag is a Titleist Scotty Cameron Tour Only T-9 putter from the 2024 series.
Wallace uses the 2023 Titleist Pro V1 X ball.
“I’m a low-spin player, so I always try to get as much spin on the ball as possible,” Wallace said of the ball.
“We play on hard greens on the PGA Tour. It's really important that my spin numbers don't drop too low. I use the Pro V1x because it gives me more drive, spin, control and distance off the tee without losing finesse and accuracy around the greens.”
The Swiss win put him ahead in the race to join Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup team at Bethpage and he claimed it inspired him to set new goals.
“I needed the change in the Ryder Cup standings to really focus me,” he said.
“Hopefully now every week will be like this week.”
