MARYLAND, South Africa — South Africa's Sean Norris won the Alfred Dunhill Golf Championship at Leopard Creek Country Club on Sunday, shooting a final-round 67 for a one-under 275 total. par 13, winning by one stroke.
It was the 42-year-old's second win on the DP World Tour, after he eagled the second set and overcame a double bogey in the seventh to take an early club lead.
Norris was in the lead at the start of day six but watched as his challenger fell behind in the final holes.
“I'm glad it worked out the way it did,” an emotional Norris said. “Last year was very difficult. Things were up and down, all over the place. But thank God, my family, my wife. We stayed together. Winning two weeks ago in Japan [at the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup] And then to win this week, it was such a blessing. “
Englishman John Parry, South Africa's Ryan van Velzen and leader Marcus Kinhult tied for second by one stroke.
Van Velzen, 23, looked likely to join Norris at the top of the leaderboard and force a playoff, but he dropped his ball in the water on the 18th hole and finished with 72 The pole ends the round.
Parry birdied four of his first six holes, but he couldn't keep the momentum going on the back nine, shooting a 69.
Sweden's Kim Huth led by three shots after the second round on Friday and was two shots ahead going into the final round, but he four-putted the seventh hole and made double bogey, losing the lead. He forced his way back into contention, but ended up shooting a 2-over 74 for the day.
Exciting 20-year-old Spanish player Angel Ayora and Darius van Driel from the Netherlands still had a chance going into the final two holes, but finished 11 under. The score of 277 tied for fifth.
Norris' only other European Tour title was also at the 2022 Steyn City Championship in South Africa.
The tournament is the second consecutive European Tour event to be held in South Africa, following last week's Nedbank Golf Challenge.
