The all-time Ryder Cup scoring leader once again qualifies for the biennial tournament between the United States and Europe.
Sergio Garcia has resumed his DP World Tour membership after amassing 28.5 points in 10 Ryder Cup games.
After joining LIV Golf, the Spaniard was suspended from the DP World Tour and eventually fined more than $1 million. Scottish golf publication confirms DP World Tour bunker Garcia did pay the fine so his tour ban could be officially enforced.
“Sergio Garcia submitted his application to return to DP World Tour membership for the 2025 season ahead of the deadline on Sunday, November 17,” a DP World Tour spokesperson said in a statement.
LIV Golf has not yet accumulated world ranking points, so it will be extremely difficult for the 44-year-old to automatically qualify for the Ryder Cup. Garcia will have to perform extremely well in the few DP World Tour events he will compete in as well as the majors he is eligible to play in, currently only the Masters.
Another option is for Garcia to become one of six captains selected by Europe captain Luke Donald. LIV stars Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton will almost certainly have a spot in the squad, assuming they perform relatively well next season.
Garcia is coming off a strong year at LIV in 2024. He has six top 5 finishes, including a personally significant victory in Valderrama (LIV Andalusia). The former Masters champion is ranked 22nd among the world's best players, according to Data Golf.
If Garcia can maintain his strong form next season, it might be enough for Donald to consider moving him to Bethpage Black.
