World number one Scotty Scheffler will miss the PGA Tour's 2025 season opener after injuring his hand while preparing Christmas dinner.
Scheffler, who successfully defended his title at the Hero World Challenge earlier this month, will compete at The Sentry in Hawaii from January 2-5.
But the 2024 FedEx Cup champion will miss three to four weeks after cutting his hand on broken glass and requiring surgery.
“Scotty was stabbed by broken glass in the palm of his right hand while preparing dinner on Christmas Day,” U.S. team manager Blake Smith said in a statement.
“Small shards of glass remained in the palm and required surgery.
“He was told he should be back to 100 percent in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from the Sentinels.”
Scheffler's next scheduled race is the American Express, which will be held in California from January 16-19.

Scheffler said he had “pretty much had the year of his life” after winning the FedEx Cup, capping off a “crazy” season – both on and off the golf course.
The 28-year-old became the first player to win The Players Championship, Masters and FedEx Cup in the same season.
Scheffler ended the season with a four-stroke victory at the Tour Championship, never relinquishing the title over four days and becoming the first player since Tiger Woods in 2007 to do so in a year. Players with seven or more wins on the PGA Tour.
After winning the Masters for the second time in three years, he was arrested and charged before the second round of the PGA Championship in May.
The charges were subsequently dropped, and Scheffler went on to win his next two signature events – the Memorial Championship and the Travelers Championship – before earning a gold medal for Team USA at the Paris Olympics and winning for the first time in his career. PGA Tour FedEx Cup Champion.
