Ryder Cup Inspires Drive European Success – Article

This may still be the early stages of this year's Ryder Cup qualifying, but Luke Donald will have reason to be optimistic after the recent Blues and Gold Rush, which shows how strong it is in the European team.

From mid-January to mid-February, Captain Donald has a success story anywhere on either side of the Atlantic Ocean.

It all started with Tyrrell Hatton winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic at the DP World Tour's Amirates Golf Club and a fifth Rolex Series with Jon Rahm, creating a wave of momentum from there.

Later that day, Sepp Straka, another member of Donald's 2023-win Ryder Cup team in Italy, also lifted the silverware, and the Austrian won his third PGA Tour title at American Express in California.

Not long after, the Europeans shone again in the Golden State, Rory McIlroy led Ireland one or two at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, while experienced Justin Rose and Straka also ranked in the top 10.

A Briton in his career form over 8,000 miles is building his own case with the Ryder Cup debut as Laurie Canter won his second DP World Tour title in the energy game in Bapco in less than a year.

In the United States, no matter what the setting is, Europeans are thriving.

In the cauldron of the stadium course at TPC Scottsdale, Thomas Detry stressed that he won his first PGA Tour title as he won the final four holes in the last four holes, winning WM Phoenix with 7 strokes.

After the seven runner-ups in the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour ended, the 32-year-old (long-touted top star in European golf) placed his hands on some silverware he had long longed for.

But while the current situation is undoubtedly positive, momentum changes in form are inevitable – weeks from the first major championship and the first serve held at Bethpage in September.

The top six on the European standings automatically won their place after the Betfred Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo in late August, and Donald then named his six captains' draft picks.

So with Donald being the captain of Europe's first return since Bernhard Gallacher, his goal is to be the second captain to lead the mainland to victory, he hopes to see the same pace as the game.
