The American, named after Mel Gibson's character in Lethal Weapon, is competing on the DP World Tour for the second time since completing all three stages of Q-School .
Johnston, ranked No. 954 in the world this week, did not participate in pre-tournament practice sessions and became the 11th U.S. champion of the Stonehaven Cup.
The 24-year-old uses a full set of TaylorMade gear, with the exception of his Titleist ball.
As expected, his club set-up remains unchanged from his DP World Tour debut at the BMW Australian Open, still carrying driver, 3-wood, 5-wood, 4-9 irons, 48-60 degrees Wedges and putters.
Johnston uses the same driver, the TaylorMade Qi10, as many of the world's top players including Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, and he also owns the same driver as the four-time Northern Ireland player. The same putter used by major championship champions.
