Asked if he would like to have captain Luke Donald’s team compete in the 2025 Ryder Cup in Bethpage, New York, Norgaard said:
“100 percent. It's a great start. But my goal from the start of the season was just to get to the final in Dubai (DP World Tour Championship).
“Goals can change and adapt. But of course, this (selection for the European Ryder Cup team) means everything. But we are just starting step by step. [the process]so we’ll have to wait and see.”
The Belfry, which has hosted four Ryder Cups, once again produced a tense finish, with Nørgaard making a double bogey seven on the par-5 15th.day hole, cutting his four-shot lead in half.
However, the Danes kept their cool on the 16thday He holed a nine-foot putt for par and followed it up with a birdie on the 17th to maintain a two-shot lead going into the final hole.
When the 32-year-old made an easy par on the iconic 18th holeday Green, his first DP World Tour victory has been confirmed.
“I’ve been playing golf since I was ten years old. [the DP World Tour] is what I see on TV all the time,” he told DP World Tour.
“My career has been slow but improving every year. I haven’t won on the Challenge Tour or anything here yet, but to win this tournament is very special for me.
“I had to call my mental coach this morning.
“When you're four shots ahead, it feels like you have to protect something, but I didn't want to do that. I really wanted to play for something.”
Meanwhile, compatriot Rasmus Højgaard finished second on The Belfry, where he won the 2020 ISPS HANDA UK Championship and clinched his second DP World Tour title, and is second in the European standings (94.00 points).
He will follow in the footsteps of twin brother Nicola, who was part of Luke Donald's winning team at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome.
Zhengwen Gao (75.00 points), Jesper Svensson (64.00 points), Jorge Campillo (48.75 points) and Matteo Manassero (48.75 points) took up the remaining four spots.
The qualifying process will culminate at the DP World Tour, which ends on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
