Nicola Hoggard had a stellar performance in the men’s Olympic golf competition, tying the National Golf Club course record with a perfect 9-under 62. The reigning DP World Tour champion etched himself in the history books with seven birdies and an eagle at the host city of the Olympics.
After shooting less-than-ideal scores of 70 in the first two rounds, he put in a strong performance in the third round and became a medal contender with 18 holes left.
The record was previously held by two other players, originally set by Eduardo Romero in 2005 and then tied by Nikola's twin brother Rasmus at the 2022 French Open.
Bragging rights between siblings may have been boosted this time around, but who did it better?
Rasmus Hojgaard shot an impressive 62 with 10 birdies and just one bogey in the first round of the annual DP World Tour. Nicolaj had a record-tying third round at the 2024 Olympics without a blemish, but missed one birdie in the process, so I’ll let you be the judge of who wins this particular shot-making contest at the Hojgaard table.
The impressive twin brothers have certainly made their mark on the golf world since making their professional debut in 2019, becoming the first pair of brothers to win back-to-back DP World Tour titles during the 2021 season.
Rasmus currently holds a one-game lead over Nicola in DP World Tour wins, but with Nicola making his mark on the PGA Tour and being named to the 2023 Ryder Cup team, it looks like both siblings have bright futures in the sport.
With Denmark having only won a single silver medal in the 2024 Olympics medal table so far, Nicolaj Hojgaard’s performance created a great opportunity for Denmark to double their medal tally and further highlighted the wealth of golf talent in the country.
