Justin Rose opens up about captaining the 2025 DP World Tour Team Cup. The European Tour has resumed its second Team Cup competition, originally scheduled for this week. The tournament, which will feature two teams, Great Britain and Ireland and Continental Europe, will take place in Abu Dhabi.
Justin Rose leads Team GB&I in this week's team competition. At the tournament press conference on January 9, 2025, Rose opened up about leading his team into the tournament this week.
When asked about getting input from 2023 European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, Rose said (via ASAP Sports):
“Honestly, I think I'm a bit of a mixture. I think Eduardo, statistically, he's been very important for the Ryder Cup recently. And I think even in my own individual game, you can tell by using statistics.”
Reflecting further on instinct also playing a role, Justin added:
“I also think going into this week, the first week after Christmas, the stats are probably not as relevant as they’ve been ten or 15 games in and we all know where our games are. There’s a few guys switching gears. Etc. I think sometimes you have to use a little bit of hunches as well,” he added.
The Team Cup format is similar to the Ryder Cup. The 2025 DP World Tour Team Cup is a three-day event. The competition will begin on January 10th and continue throughout the weekend, concluding on Sunday, January 12th at the Abu Dhabi Golf Resort.
Justin Rose reflects on his double duty at Team Cup
Justin Rose captains the Great Britain and Ireland team this week, and during a press conference on January 9, the Englishman reflected on his dual responsibilities of leading his teammates as a player and captain, saying (via ASAP Sports):
“First of all, it's an honor. I think it's something that's always on my mind. Because obviously sometimes as a player you go into a game, you're obviously always preparing for the game that's coming up,” Justin Rose said.
“But when you have something like this looming, you start thinking about it months in advance. What do I say? Do I have any good ideas? What have I learned from previous captains? I feel like that's a Very good idea. “It's been a big responsibility that's been on my mind for a few months now and I think it's going really well,” he added.
The two teams competing this week have ten players each. Members of the GB&I team include Laurie Canter, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, Aaron ·Aaron Rai, Jordan Smith, Matt Wallace, Paul Waring and Matthew Jordan.
