Jon Rahm arrived late to the 2024 Spanish Open, missing the pro-am and arriving just one day before the tournament at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
He was late for a good reason: He was at home in Scottsdale, Arizona, spending time with his wife, who had just given birth to their third child.
While the Presidents Cup is the focus for many fans this week, the DP World Tour also has a strong field, including many Ryder Cup and LIV players.
When we last saw Rahm, he had withdrawn from the LIV Golf Team Championship due to the flu. Although he was one of 24 Spanish players in the field, seeking his fourth Open title in his home country, he was playing his first DP World Tour event since joining LIV Golf nine months ago. It was the first of three European Tour events he planned to play to maintain his Ryder Cup eligibility. He also appealed the DP World Tour's sanction against his participation in the LIV, and the appeal has been put on hold, allowing him to play this week.
That’s a lot of subplots for one person.
Joining Rahm in the Spanish Open are Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Sean Lowry, Patrick Reed, Aaron Rai, Sepp Straka and defending champion Matthew Pavin.
