Jon Rahm has appealed the sanctions imposed on him by the DP World Tour for his participation in the LIV Golf Tournament conflict, and it appears he will still be eligible for the Ryder Cup.
The DP World Tour confirmed that Rahm had appealed before Thursday's Spanish Open deadline and will be able to play at his home open later this month.ahm said this week he also plans to play in the Andalucia Masters and the Dunhill Golf Championshipwhich would allow him to meet the minimum requirement of participating in four events in addition to the Olympics to continue to qualify for the European Ryder Cup team.
A DP World Tour spokesperson said in a statement: “Jon Rahm is appealing the sanction imposed on him and, under DP World Tour rules, is eligible to compete in the Spanish Open in Madrid later this month.”
Before the LIV Individual Championship in Chicago, Rahm said he had no intention of paying the fine for competing in an LIV event without permission. His appeal will be heard by an independent arbitration panel at a later date.
LIV’s Tyrrell Hatton and Adrian Meronk also used this loophole in the rules to evade sanctions and compete on the European Tour.
