Britain's Amy Taylor claimed a breakthrough title on the Ladies European Tour with a dramatic one-stroke win at the Italian Ladies Open.
The 23-year-old shot a three-under 69 on the final day at Golf National, with six birdies and three bogeys, to finish at 10 under, one shot ahead of Spain's Maria Hernandez.
Taylor led by one stroke entering the final day and was well ahead with four birdies in the six holes starting at the third hole, but he made bogeys on the 11th and 13th holes, giving hope to his pursuers.
Two more birdies at the 14th and 16th holes gave Taylor a two-shot advantage heading into the final par-5 hole, where a bogey would have been enough for her to take home the trophy and secure her LET status for the next three years.
“I'm speechless right now!” she said after her win. “I can't believe it. Earlier this week, I went to [Trevi] The fountain in Rome, I threw a coin in hoping I would win! I didn't tell anyone but it happened!
“When I stood on the 18th green, I knew I had two shots left. Harry [Ewing] My caddie said, 'Just hit it softly,' and I hit it past three feet! So he might have aged a little bit because of me today, but I was happy I was able to hole it out on the back hole. I still won, so it doesn't matter!”
Hernandez came close to a second LET title – and first since 2010 – as she shot a final-round 67 and capped it off with an incredible chip-in eagle on the par-5 18th hole, while France's Camille Chevalier joined Shannon Tan and Italian amateur Francesca Fiorellini in third place at 7 under.
Five players tied for sixth, including Pia Babnik, Taylor's partner Alessandra Fanali (who shot a 5-under 67), Emma Spitz, Kirsten Rudgeley and Diksha Dagar.
