Rory McIlroy will be aiming to add another major championship to his illustrious resume as he competes in the British Open this week.
The Northern Irishman endured a heartbreaking time at last month's US Open, where a collapse in the closing stages of the match cost him glory.
However, McIlroy capped off another disappointing campaign with a T4 finish at the Scottish Open and now heads to Royal Troon.
He will be looking to gain more success in the first two rounds, fighting alongside Max Homa and Tyrell Hatton.
How many championships has McIlroy won in his career?
McIlroy has 40 career wins.
He has won four major championships, 22 times on the PGA Tour, 10 times on the DP World Tour, one time on the Australasian Tour and three times worldwide.
With his win at the Zurich Classic, he became the first player to reach 25 PGA Tour victories (regular season and majors) since 2005, following Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh 19 years earlier.
He has won three times this year, most recently at the Wells Fargo Championship in May.
Since McIlroy won his first PGA Tour trophy in 2010, there have only been two years in which he has not tasted success: 2017 and 2013.
But since 2018, he has won a race every year.
He has won the British Open, U.S. Open and PGA Championship twice, as well as the Players Championship and BMW PGA Championship and three World Golf Championships.
On the DP World Tour, McCrory’s most recent win came at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January.
Although he has won four major championships, he has been waiting for a fifth victory for a long time. His last victory in a major championship was the 2014 PGA Championship.
Yet, he continues to win on tour and is certainly closing in on another major title.
After revealing the toll being a professional golfer has taken on his life, McCrory is now changing his mind.
He told The Daily Telegraph: “I need to step back and appreciate what I have achieved in my career and life and enjoy my success.
“I don’t really enjoy my success – and I can say I haven’t for the past five years.
“I haven't had a day off in probably four or five years. So I thought it would be best to just take a step back and enjoy myself a little bit more outside of the game. Just have some fun.”
“I live near a golf course and it’s easy to go there and hit a few balls at 7 p.m.
“So I think it's good to be able to step away from golf and give myself a little bit of freedom and not think about golf.”
He continued: “I’m committed to having more fun in the future.”
“I love traveling and seeing new places. Going from Pinehurst Park to New York, I enjoyed it.”
“I love eating at new restaurants, visiting new vineyards, tasting new wines. I'm a foodie. I love visiting new parts of the world.”
