South Korean golfer Tom Kim (22) apologized on Tuesday for damaging a locker after missing a chance to win his hometown DP World Tour title over the weekend.
Kim, ranked 25th in the world, missed an eight-foot putt on the final hole of the Genesis Championship at the Jack Nicklaus Club in Incheon, near Seoul, on Sunday, missing out on victory.
The PGA Tour player then lost mercifully to fellow Korean Byung-hun An in a playoff.
A photo later posted on social media showed his locker door coming off its hinges.
“I was frustrated after losing the game, yes, absolutely,” Kim posted the news on Instagram.
“But I can assure you with absolute truth that I had no intention of damaging any part of the locker, not at all.
“Immediately after the incident occurred, I expressed this matter to DP World Tour and KPGA, saying that the door was opened,” Kim said.
“We had to pull it out completely for safety reasons. I also let them know that I was willing to pay for all the damage.”
South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that the Korea Professional Golf Association (KPGA) may take disciplinary action against Kim.
“The matter was deemed closed upon my apology and offer of damages,” Kim added, having a message for his fans.
“I am grateful to everyone who has sent messages of support, but to them and to anyone I may have let down, I sincerely apologize.”
