Jon Rahm reveals complications with wife's pregnancy may prevent him from attending DP World Tour Later this year
After Rahm moved to the Ryder Cup last December, there was speculation that the rules would need to be rewritten for him before next year's Ryder Cup.
But the Spaniard and his LIV teammate, England's Tyrrell Hatton, have been offered the chance to fight in New York next September.
Fears of missing out on the Ryder Cup were eased when European Tour Group CEO Guy Kinnings clarified that the two golfers only needed to pay a fine and play at least four DP World Tour events to retain their membership and be eligible for selection.
Ginnings is keen to stress that this so-called “loophole” has always existed.
LIV Golf's third season ends Sept. 22, raising the possibility that Rahm will compete in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
He can also play in other tournaments on the tour schedule.
Before the 152nd Open, Rahm was asked if he had paid the outstanding fine.

“We’re still in communication with the tour,” he said.
“I haven’t played any tour events yet, so yeah, we have to sort that out first and then I can play the Spanish Open.
“Right now, I’m still waiting to hear about my wife and daughter and I don’t know if I’ll be able to play.
“So it was uncertain whether I could continue playing golf after I fell.”
Ram was again asked if he had paid the fine and he confirmed that he had not.
He added: “I'm not going to lie, right now with my wife and my daughter's situation, I haven't really thought about anything beyond September, October, to be honest with you.”
Rahm, who is married to Kelly Cahill, did not release further information about the complications.
The couple met while attending college in Arizona.
They married in December 2019 and have two sons. Kepa was born in 2021 and Eneko was born in 2022.
In March this year, Ram confirmed that they were expecting their third child.
“I think he would be a great captain”
Rahm was more public about his thoughts on Keegan Bradley’s appointment as the next U.S. Ryder Cup captain.
He expressed surprise that person wasn't Tiger Woods.
Woods said in his pre-tournament news conference that he simply hadn't had the time to really commit to the role.
Rahm said having a Boston native as New York's captain might not be the best choice.
“But I think they can put their differences aside for that week,” he added.
“He definitely has a bit of a Captain America image when he’s there, just a lot of energy,” Rahm said of Bradley, alluding to the American’s behavior during the 2012 Medina tournament.
“[He] It was a pleasure working with Phil. [Mickelson]played very good golf, especially in the Medina.
“I'm not surprised. I think he can be a good captain.”
“[He] Cares a lot about country. Cares a lot about the Ryder Cup.”
