McKibbin won the European Open in June 2023 for his first DP World Tour title. At this year's Italian Open, he shot a 65 in the final round and lost to German Marseille in the play-offs. Sim, almost won a second championship.
His other achievements in 2024 include breaking into the world's top 100 for the first time and competing in the U.S. Open and British Open championships, making the cut in both events.
“It was a very good year, a very solid year, a lot of top 10s, very consistent,” he reflected.
“I'm happy with it so far, I just have to keep going until the end of the year. Have to focus on the last five games, there are a lot of key points that you can move around so I have to stay focused and do my best and finish as hard as I can this year.”
McKibbin, the youngest Irish champion on the DP World Tour since Rory McIlroy, already has more than £1 million in prize money in 2024, but what he desires most is more trophies.
“Going into the last five games I would have loved to get another trophy but the competition is so fierce it's hard to win anywhere,” he said.
