DP World Tour's Dan Whitnell achieved one of the most unlikely golf feats in the second round of the Investec South African Open Championship on Friday – two holes in a single round.
Whitnell completed nine shots at 63, including his two A's on the second and 12th holes, a hawk on the third hole of 5 and a double bogey on the 16th hole. His round also includes seven birdies.
The 36-year-old Brit is now entering the weekend's nine points and is in the competition with only five shots in an even number, with the leader having only five shots.
The X on the golf commentator and Podcaster Sam Harrop X describes Whitnell's performance as “totally golf.”
The top of the rankings is currently the boundaries of South Africans, with four of the top six players coming from South Africa. Two-time PGA Tour champion Branden Grace was tied for third with only three shots.

Whitnell's Season
Dale Whitnell made the race in 2025, tied for 57th at the Kenya Open last week, tied for 55th at the Katar Masters, tied for 34th at the Bahrain Championships, and won the Dubai Desert Classic in Dubai.
Whitnell was outstanding in the Alfred Dunhill Championship in December, which was also in South Africa and tied for seventh place, only behind champion Shaun Norris. But Whitnell struggled in the 2024 DP World Tour, with his best result at the 2024 Singapore Classic.
Whitnell is currently the 545th-ranked golfer in the official world golf rankings, with his highest ranking. He is currently ranked 66th in the competition at DP World Tour for Dubai, but the DP World Tour will be ranked 51st in the competition after the South African Open.

Whitnell, a one-time champion of the DP World Tour, won the 2023 Volvo Cars in Sweden, a match that includes both male and female golfers. Whitnell finished with 21 and won three shots.
Whitnell, who has never played in any of the U.S. Grand Championships, only competed in the 2012 Open Championship when he tied for 60th in the 60th stroke by eight. Ernie Els won his last title after Adam Scott's final round collapse, a game that was best remembered, which bogeyed him, with the last four holes, and lost one match.
