Soren Kjeldsen competed in his final DP World Tour event as a full card holder after finishing tied for 27th at the Genesis Championship in South Korea.
The Dane, who returned to his professional career in 1995 and has retained European Tour status every year since 1998, will now turn 50 next year after 27 years on the European Tour. Attention turns to Senior Tour golf.
Earlier this year, Shelson became the fourth player in history to make more than 700 starts on the European Tour, joining David Howell, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Sam Tow. Lens's cavalcade. The Dane, who has made more than 480 of his 712 starts, played all four rounds flawlessly in his final start in South Korea, finishing with a 1-under 71.
“I'll be 50 next May, so this year I'm not keeping my card for the first time in 27 years. I think I'm playing pretty well this year, but it's hard for me to compete,” he told DP World Tour.
“I've decided to get ready for the senior tour. So obviously I've got about six months left now, so hopefully be ready physically, mentally ready to do something big again.
“This was a dream of mine growing up and it's been better than I could have ever hoped for. It's incredible, I love the sport. I love the competition and the people I meet. The highs, the lows, everything is hard To put it into words, it’s incredible.”
Speaking in the lounge, Shelderson described his crowning moment winning the 2016 Golf World Cup in Melbourne with Thorbjorn Olesen, while also telling the story of his former caddy Julian · Julian Phillips learned an important lesson early in his career that taught him respect.
He concluded with a message to other pros, telling them to “take good care” of his beloved European Tour.
“I do have a message for everyone involved in the DP World Tour,” he said.
“It's been an amazing trip, take care of it and enjoy it. It's a fantastic way to make a living, there are lots of trophies to win and moments to experience. So enjoy it, take care of it and have a great trip” .
