Casey Jarvis scored his first career goal on the first day of the Alfred Dunhill Championship, hitting three straight two-pointers after a slow start. Part of a stunning counterattack.
The 21-year-old South African's first two holes didn't go according to plan, with an opening bogey on the 10th and then a double bogey on the 11th.
But he bounced back with a birdie on No. 12 and an eagle on No. 13, hitting the ball right back.
His comeback continued on the back nine with an eagle and two birdies, and the home favorite carded a 2-2-2 on the fifth hole to open with a 65.
Jarvis is no stranger to Leopard Creek Country Club, where he had great success as an amateur, and he was delighted with Thursday's result.
He said: “After I put the third two on the scorecard, I said to my caddy, I haven’t done this before, so it was really cool to do it.
“On the seventh hole I aimed for the left edge of the green and I wasn’t trying to make a birdie, but it went in.
“I had a little bit of a rough start today but hit a nice putt and actually saved a double bogey and then told myself 'let's do this now'.
“I played well out there and was really solid today.
“I've obviously had a lot of success here as an amateur, coming here and trying to play the game I was playing here, and it seems to be working.”
