The International Golf Federation (IGF) uses the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) to develop the Olympic Golf Ranking (OGR) as a method of determining qualification. The top 15 players in the world ranking qualify for the Olympics, with a maximum of four players per country. Even though I work in golf media, I had never watched more than a few minutes of LIV Golf TV coverage until the week before the British Open at Valderrama. Why? Moral issues aside, I have little interest in a 54-hole golf tournament without a cut, especially considering that many of the players on the PIF-backed tour are well past their prime.I watched a few minutes of the inaugural 2022 Centurion Club event live and saw some highlights on social media, but it was all over until Valderrama’s event. However, I’m increasingly interested in the quality of live broadcasts of men’s…
Golf at the last Olympics was a leading indicator for two gold medalists: Xander Schauffele and Nelly Korda both reached greater heights in 2024. What impact will the upcoming Paris Olympics have on the world's athletes hoping to challenge the two defending favorites? Can rising young star Yin Ruoning continue China's traditional dominance in diving, weightlifting, table tennis and gymnastics to win the country's first golf gold medal? Can Frenchman Victor Perez continue the golf momentum in the host country from the 2018 Ryder Cup? Can players like Bianca Pagdanganan of the Philippines excite the Olympic fanatic fan base in…
Although Richard Brand said he never considered competing in the Senior Open to add another Senior Major to his trophy cabinet, it turns out he never got the chance to do so. Brand won the Senior PGA Championship and Senior U.S. Open earlier this year, but he is ineligible for this week's Senior Open at Carnoustie because the event is jointly sanctioned by the DP World Tour and Open organizers The R&A. clutch.
