Jorge Campillo holds a four-shot lead midway through the Estrella Damm North American Andalusia Masters as Jon Rahm returns to his home court to compete for the title.
Last month, Rahm appealed an unpaid fine for switching to LIV Golf in order to gain access to DP World Tour events, resulting in participation in the Spanish Open, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the Andalusia Masters .
To stay eligible for next year's Ryder Cup in New York, stream sky sportsRahm must compete in four DP World Tour events this season – with the Olympics counting as one of them.
Playing this week at the Andalusia Masters, his fourth DP World Tour event of the season, he improved from a tie for 39th on Thursday to a tie for sixth at 8 under.
Home favorite Campillo notched a bogey-free second day with a stunning 65 and now leads by four strokes.
After an opening 64, Campillo started today's match with a two-stroke advantage, and after just two holes on Friday, Campillo made a hole-in-one for eagle on the 11th fairway to take the top spot. He never looked back, finishing with five birdies to finish at 15 under and take the weekend lead.
England's Dan Brown, who shot 70 in the second round after shooting a 63 in the first round, was Campillo's closest challenger at 11 under.
Rahm shot a second-round 66 to finish tied for sixth at 8 under and will be one to watch over the weekend.
Campillo is a three-time DP World Tour champion but none of his previous wins have come in Europe and he hopes to change that this week.
Campillo said in the commentary box after the round: “That would be great. I've never won in Europe, always in Africa or Asia. Yeah, that would be great for sure.”
“There's still a long way to go but it would be nice to win in your home country.”

Speaking of his good start, Campillo added: “I made a nice putt on No. 10 to save par, and then the eagle on No. 11 was a great way to set the tone.
“It was a tough pitch, but it was the best part of my game. I hit it perfectly and it went in, which was good.”
