INCHEON, South Korea: Byung-hun An beat fellow South Korean Tom Kim in a playoff at the Genesis Championship on Sunday to win his second DP World Tour title and first in nearly 10 years.
The home pair, who thrilled a large crowd at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon, near Seoul, both shot 67s in the final round to finish tied at 17 under.
They backed off on the 18th hole, and King found trouble in the hospitality stands surrounding the green and had to make bogey, giving Ahn the victory.
In a dramatic final run, six players held the lead or were tied for the lead at one stage.
But PGA Tour star Kim emerged ahead of last-placed An Seung after his compatriot South Korea missed the shot on the 17th hole.
Both men hit 8-foot shots on the par-5 18th hole.
Ahn applied pressure with a birdie before King backed out of the putt that would have given him the win.
Ann's first win on the DP World Tour since winning the 2015 PGA Championship at Wentworth.
“It's great, obviously I've had a great season and it's been too long (to win) on a major tour,” said the 33-year-old Ann.
“All I did was show some good golf in front of the home fans, and I haven’t played in front of them in a while.
“It felt great and it was a bit of a shame that Tom messed up there, but it was a great race for me and I really enjoyed it.
“I guess I was a little lucky to be the winner today.”
