The Sentinels will kick off the 2025 season on the PGA Tour, beginning on Thursday, January 2. Teams will include all last season's tournament winners and the top 50 members of the FedExCup.
However, there will be several players missing from Sentinel Field. There are a variety of reasons for missing games, ranging from injuries to other professional commitments.
Sentinels missing 4 PGA Tour stars in 2025
The Sentinel Tournament is also the first signature event of the season. Therefore, those who miss out will miss out on one of the largest prizes ($20 million) and a huge amount of FedExCup points (700 points for the winner).
#1 Scotty Scheffler
Scotty Scheffler suffered a hand injury on Christmas Day that required surgery. He was forced out of the Sentinels and, if his hand heals in time, will start his season with the American Express.
Scheffler is currently ranked No. 1 in the world and was the favorite before withdrawing from the competition. During the season, he won seven PGA Tour titles, an Olympic gold medal and the unofficial Hero World Challenge.
#2 Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy has won two PGA Tour titles and finished in the top 50 in the 2024 FedExCup, earning him a starting spot. However, due to other commitments, McIlroy will not travel to Hawaii.
The Northern Irishman usually starts his season on the DP World Tour, particularly in Dubai. In 2025, he will defend his 2024 Hero Dubai Desert Classic title. In fact, McIlroy has never played the Sentinel in his career.
#3 Sean Lowry
Shane Lowry is another European player in the top 50 of the FedExCup (tied for ninth) but will not play in the season opener. Although the entry list for the Hero Dubai Desert Classic has yet to be officially announced, the Irishman is likely to start his season at the event.
#4 Tommy Fleetwood
Tommy Fleetwood also cracked the FedExCup top 50 (No. 20) and will also miss the PGA Tour season opener. For his part, he will take part in the Team Cup competition between teams from Great Britain and Ireland and continental Europe.
The event will be held from January 10th to 12th. Fleetwood will play for England, led by Justin Rose, with Francesco Molinari captaining the opposition.
