Romain Langasque, playing in his fourth career Open, withdrew from the tournament with a back injury.
After teeing off on the par-3 8th hole, a 123-yard hole famously known as the “Postage Stamp,” Langaske hit his ball 84 yards into dense fescue grass, well short of the green. His second shot went well over the green and into even more trouble. Then Langaske decided he'd had enough.
He turned, gestured to his caddie, took off his hat and shook hands with the walking referee to deliver the news that he needed to go home, Christopher Powers of Golf Digest reported. He did the same to his opponents CT Pan and Yuto Katsuragawa.
Don't doubt that Roman Langaske's back is indeed injured, but regardless, this is a “what the hell, I'm out” WD pic.twitter.com/zjOI4j5nPt

Langaske was 3 over par through seven holes, but his back condition clearly prevented him from playing well.
This is an unfortunate reality for the Frenchman, who finished third in the Genesis Open in Scotland last week. On Sunday, Langesque shot a 6-under 64 to climb into the top three of the leaderboard. He even made an eagle on the par-5 16th hole like Robert MacIntyre, which undoubtedly helped him to get the final ranking.
He had also played well the week before, finishing tied for ninth at the BMW International Open, but unfortunately, his Open Championship run was short-lived as it all ended on one of the shortest holes in golf.
